The team began the 2008 season with a bang at the Porkin' in the Park competition held in Clarksville during the first weekend in April. The weekend was filled with tough competition from a group of highly regarded veterans and Ulika was thrilled to take home an outstanding 3rd Place Finish Overall, receiving 1st Place in Chicken and 3rd Place in Brisket! For the third year in a row, Ulika returned to Winchester for one of its favorite events - the State Championship High on the Hog Competition. The team had another outstanding weekend, taking an incredible 7th Place Finish Overall with 52 teams competing. Ulika received its highest number of stage calls to date taking 5th Place in Chicken, 9th Place in Ribs and 7th Place in Brisket. Visit the Ulika Food Blog for a more detailed review of Winchester.
In May, the team headed back to Pulaski for the Sun Drop Country BBQ Cookoff held at the Giles County Agricultural Park. Coming in off of two strong finishes, the results in Pulaski weren't exactly stellar but everyone enjoyed a wonderful weekend. The team was thrilled to receive an official Sun Drop bottle trophy for their 4th Place Finish in Brisket - the third top 10 finish in the category in as many competitions! In June, the team was pleased to return to Lawrenceburg, Tennessee for the AT&T BBQ Cookoff held under the pavilion at the Lawrenceburg Rotary Park. For the second time, Ulika took a 4th Place Finish in Brisket and was thrilled to win their first ancillary category as well receiving 1st Place in Sauce! Ulika ended the summer competitions with a bang, taking 7th Place Overall at the Cookeville Cookoff in Cookeville, Tennessee (September 6, 2008). The team had three calls for the weekend, receiving a 10th Place Finish in Chicken, a 7th Place Finish in Pork, and a 6th Place Finish in Brisket.
